Mountains Again!
I may be using the term “mountain” liberally, but it was an exciting moment to see a relative peak on the horizon as we drove into Adirondack Park in New York. The tallest peak here may only be just over 5,000’, but it’s still a beautiful site to see after a month or two of relative flat as we crossed through the Plains and upper Midwest.
The Adirondacks themselves are beautiful. It is the United State’s largest state park, and one of only 2 state parks congressionally protected. There is a unique blend of private and public land, with about 50% of the park owned privately. It is filled with beautiful lakes, lush forest, small peaks, and interspersed with cute towns occupied by both tourists and long term ex-city goers who ended up staying more than a season to relish in the fresh outdoor air.
We found a wonderful free campground, which has been harder and harder to find as we travel East. This will likely be our basecamp for the next week, as we explore what the park has to offer. It has already been a very enjoyable 2 days as we explore the picturesque village of Inlet, and hike some of the areas trails.
We hope you enjoy the following pictures from our impromptu Photo session at the top of Rocky Mountain Peak as much as Loki did!
